What you'll be doing
- Meet one on one with students to develop a personal learning plan with both academic and non cognitive skill growth goal and interest. Host small group lesson and intervention within subject area (ELA or math) for students. Collaborate and communicate with teaching staff daily. Create a learning pathway of curriculum for students based on their interest and need. Use previous school data about each student to inform curriculum and pedagogy decision. Develop and maintain caring and supportive relationship with students. Expose students to new idea, perspective, people, object and situation to expand interest and find new one. Create group cohesion, positive communication and conflict resolution. Support and encourage interest exploration and search for real world learning experience. Hold a holistic view: draw on the skill and intelligence in multiple areas of work and life experience. Assist students in designing media project that will culminate in a YU Learn film festival at the end of the summer. Observe and document formal and informal demonstration of learning and growth. Provide consistent and effective instruction in ELA or math in a variety of setting (advisory, small group, one on one, etc.). Assess student ability and use resource to support students at all level. Incorporate reading, writing and mathematic into real world project.
What your background should be
- Valid state teaching certificate. Five or more years experience teaching adults and/or youth. Three plus years experience in design and delivery of academic curriculum such as science, math reading, writing or social studies, other subjects, as appropriate. Ability to design and deliver hands on, engaging academic classes. Knowledge of and experience with innovative delivery techniques. Ability to travel to various locations. Ability to speak any language in addition to English preferred. Demonstrates teamwork and personal accountability, seeking and providing feedback, coaching and resources for development. Takes the initiative and holds self and others accountable to meet or exceed quantitative and qualitative goals relating to people (employee and member), philanthropy, finance and volunteerism. Has a wide variety of skills and strengths. Has a strong understanding of personalized learning. Will be familiar and have experience with project based learning.
